Fionn Clarke, who has just completed his BSc in Biomedical Science from the Discipline of Anatomy in NUI Galway, was awarded the prize for Best Oral Presentation at the recent Joint Conference of the Microscopical Society of Ireland and the Northern Ireland Biomedical Engineering Society held at the University of Ulster in Jordanstown.
He was the only undergraduate and the only Galway student presenting at the conference, facing competition from Postgraduate students from TCD, DIT, RCSI, QUB and UUJ.
Fionn presented his final year project on the venom apparatus of Scolopendra subspinipes centipedes, an example of the inter-disciplinary work being carried out by Alexander Black of Anatomy and Michel Dugon of Prof. Wallace Arthur's Evo/Devo lab in Zoology.
